Somerset Hangzhou: A Poetic Blend of Elegance and Sustainability

Creating a Harmonious and Artistic Living Space

Following the core philosophy of warmth and harmony, designers Tao Huang and Zhihong Li have crafted Somerset Hangzhou, a serviced residence that embodies the unique aesthetic quality and cultural legacy of the picturesque city. With a focus on modern context and sustainability, this design breathes an artistic conception of Oriental white space and an elegant spirit, creating a homely and comfortable housing option for global elites.

Located on the bank of the Qiantang River, Somerset Hangzhou is an integral part of a large landmark complex. Its simple, natural, and smooth design evokes endless imagination of a pleasant life, setting a new and forward-looking standard for long-term rental apartments. The project covers an impressive area of 28,060 square meters, providing ample space for residents to enjoy.

Drawing inspiration from the principles of eastern philosophy, the design of Somerset Hangzhou embraces the art of white space. Chinese tradition aesthetics emphasize that beauty lies not in objects or landscapes, but in imagery. By focusing on the essence, the designers have used simple stones, warm wood grains, and the white texture of fiber wall fabric to create a soft and transparent tone. This approach not only sparks imagination but also allows dwellers to develop their own views on life.

In addition to the art of white space, the design also caters to the special functions of a serviced residence. Spacious tailor-made storage spaces have been incorporated into the harmonious and elegant background created with lines and a carefully curated color system. This allows residents from across the world to bring their personal articles, turning Somerset Hangzhou into another homely residence outside their hometown.

Hangzhou is known for its strong humanistic atmosphere and poetic landscapes. Somerset Hangzhou aims to capture this essence by integrating Chinese artistic conception into the metropolitan space. It provides a platform for citizens to unwind and discover the true meaning of life. With its prime location in the emerging core district, Somerset Hangzhou reflects aesthetic taste, personality, and artistic interest.

The design of Somerset Hangzhou was a result of extensive research and creative challenges. The designers aimed to create a place that residents could truly call home, no matter where they may be. The serviced residence offers fashionable home entertainment facilities, striking a balance between gathering, leisure, and business activities. After a day of efficient work, residents can invite friends to enjoy the views and have a good time.

Somerset Hangzhou was completed in June 2018 after a year-long project. The design team, led by Creative Director Tao Huang and Design Director Zhihong Li, successfully overcame technical and creative challenges to create a space that harmonizes with the environment and maximizes spatial potential.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. The award celebrates designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Somerset Hangzhou's commitment to quality of life improvements and its contribution to making the world a better place have earned it this esteemed accolade.
